Environmental Responsibility

The olive tree and olive growing, precious tools in the fight against climate change

All published studies agree in maintaining that “the olive grove is able to sequester and store more CO2 than is produced for its cultivation” furthermore “it is able to raise carbon levels in the soil“.

An environmental heritage that must be safeguarded, a forest of over 100,000,000 TREES

Nowaday, there are approximately 715 cultivars peculiar to our territory. Of these, around 300 are actually in production but our cultivars still represent 42% of the world heritage. In Apulia there are 60 million plants, practically one plant for every Italian citizen!

The olive tree and the entire olive supply chain become strategic for:
  • Its environmental impact
  • For the productive and economic function of entire areas of our country
  • For a territorial identity made of biodiversity and Mediterranean history
Our work becomes fundamental in defending and safeguarding a productive world that must be safeguarded through a search for continuous production improvements and the representation of the intrinsic value of the product.

A healthy product, for a healthy diet that is good for the planet.

SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATIONS

INTRODUCTION

The “SUSTAINABLE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL (EVO)” standard is the result of the development of a process with various stakeholders which involved companies and representatives from the agricultural world and the world of industry.

The need for this standard arises from the desire to produce EVO oil at the best of known practices to guarantee a sustainable product

The added value of this standard consists in the approach to sustainability according to the definition given by the 1997 Treaty of Amsterdam. In fact, with the Copenhagen Summit and the Amsterdam Treaty of 1997, the European Union institutionally establishes the three pillars of sustainability in the so-called “three pillars of sustainability model“:

* Economic: ability to generate income and work

* Environmental: ability to maintain the quality and reproducibility of natural resources

* Socialility: ability to ensure conditions of human well-being (human rights, labor practices, fair operating practices, consumer protection, community involvement and development)
